The aim of the workshop is to shed some light on various aspects of modern finite group theory, with a particular view towards computations. More precisely, we will focus on the following strongly interconnected topics:

(1) Cohomology of finite-dimensional algebras:
This generalises the case of finite group algebras, and next to cohomology rings this also covers the computation of Ext algebras. Moreover, aspects from commutative algebra and from topology come into play here.
(2) Fusion systems
are a conceptual device to relate the structure of p-groups to their embeddings into arbitrary finite groups, where again topological aspects play a role. In view of (1), the cohomology of p-groups, and how it is influenced by their structure, is particularly interesting in itself, and moreover is one of the cornerstones of computing finite group cohomology in general.
(3) Block theory of finite groups:
To understand the structure of module categories deep facts from homology theory are indispensable, yielding tight connections to (1) and complementing the insights acquired there. Moreover, by way of local-global principles, there are intimate connections to (2), leading to mutual influence between these areas.
